Steelers All 90: WR Tyler Simmons

All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2021 offseason roster.

82 • Tyler Simmons, first-year wide receiver
6-foot, 201 pounds

Acquired: Signed by the Steelers as street free agent on March 22, 2021.

Last season: Simmons, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia by the Houston Texans in 2020. He was released by Houston but spent the season on the Texans’ practice squad.

College: Simmons earned a starting role for the Bulldogs midway through his junior season in 2018, and ended up starting 18 games. Simmons played in the 2018 and 2019 SEC Championship Games, 2018 Rose Bowl and 2020 Sugar Bowl.

Simmons finished his college career with 35 catches for 438 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 220 yards on 17 carries for two more touchdowns. He averaged 12.7 yards per touch from scrimmage in his college career and scored five total touchdowns on 52 touches.

Camp outlook: Simmons worked out for NFL teams at Georgia’s pro day, where he caught the eye of Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert.
He’ll have to find a way to keep doing so, as the team has seven returning wide receivers and a few other strong options.

Future: Simmons will be an exclusive rights free agent after the season.
