All 91 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 91 members of the Steelers 2019 training camp roster.
38 • Jaylen Samuels, second-year running back
Last year: Drafted by the Steelers in the second round out of NC State and played in 14 games while making three starts in place of an injured James Conner.
Stats: Averaged 4.6 yards per carry on 56 attempts for 256 yards. Also caught 26 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns.
Accolades, Highlights:
Camp outlook: Samuels is in an interesting training camp battle, as he doesn’t really have any competition for the pass-catching second back role. How much he plays will likely be determined by how well he does when he gets opportunities.
Projected role: Will be the primary backup to Conner, play as the second back in two-back sets and could even supplant Conner in obvious passing downs.
