All 91 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 91 members of the Steelers 2019 training camp roster.
38 • Kameron Kelly, first-year defensive back
Last year: Signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent after graduating from San Diego State. Was released by the Cowboys after training camp and spent the 2018 season out of football. Signed with the San Diego Fleet of the AAF and played there until the league folded.
Stats: Had four interceptions, nine passes defended and made 14 tackles in eight games with the fleet. Also played some wide receiver.
Accolades, Highlights:
Camp outlook: Kelly has played corner and safety, but the Steelers have almost exclusively used him as a backup to Sean Davis at free safety, and with Davis missing time in camp with a dislocated finger, Kelly has gotten plenty of run with the first team.
Projected role: It’s still a crowded house for backups in the Steelers’ defensive secondary, but Kelly seems to be ahead of the pack when it comes to a spot on the 53-man roster. He’ll need to show he can contribute on special teams to earn a helmet on game days.
