Steelers All 91: OLB Tuzar Skipper

Steelers OLB Tuzar Skipper

All 91 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 91 members of the Steelers 2019 training camp roster.

51 • Tuzar Skipper, rookie outside linebacker

Last year: Played defensive end at Toledo, where he played in all 13 games as a redshirt senior after missing most of 2017 with an injury. Skipper attended the Steelers’ rookie minicamp on a tryout at outside linebacker and was signed afterward.

Stats: Skipper had 8 1/2 sacks to lead the Rockets and was fifth in the entire MAC. He also had 60 tackles, third on the team, and 11 1/2 tackles for a loss. Skipper also forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and scored a defensive touchdown.

Camp outlook: Skipper fits one of the most pervasive molds of the last 30 years of Steelers football: an unheralded and undersized but athletic collegiate defensive end with good pass-rushing skills being moved to outside linebacker. He’ll have familiar growing pains in that paradigm, especially in pass coverage, but he also has the body type to really thrive in the role.

Projected role: Skipper is well behind second-teamers Ola Adeniyi and Anthony Chickillo, but a 53-man roster spot is not totally out of the question if the Steelers keep nine linebackers.
