Steelers All 91: WR Donte Moncrief

All 91 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 91 members of the Steelers 2019 training camp roster.

11 • Donte Moncrief sixth-year wide receiver

Last year: Signed a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars before the 2018 season after spending his first four season with the Indianapolis Colts. Started 14 of 16 games for the Jaguars.

Signed a two-year, $9 million free agent contract with the Steelers this offseason.

Stats: Made 48 catches on 89 targets for 668 yards and a 13.9 yards per catch average. Scored three touchdowns. Was second on the Jaguars in yards and touchdowns.

Returned 30 punts for an 8.4 yards per return average and 30 kickoffs for a 20.2 yards per return average. He was 12th in the league in kickoff return average.

Accolades, Highlights:

Camp outlook: Part of a crowded field at wide receiver, Moncrief will enter as the starter opposite JuJu Smith-Schuster and hope to hold off second-year man James Washington and rookie Diontae Johnson at that spot.

Projected role: Washington has better leaping ability and Johnson is twitchier coming out of breaks, but neither has the kind of NFL experience Moncrief brings — neither does Smith-Schuster, for that matter.

If he’s going to lose his grip on that starting job, it’s more likely to happen mid-season than coming out of camp.
