The Steelers are among the teams listed as potential destinations for disgruntled Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, according to odds released on Thursday by SportsBetting.com.
Watson was reportedly upset by the process that the Texans followed in hiring New England Patriots general manager Nick Caserio, feeling that concerns of his and of other players were not heard.
Watson has not officially made a request to be traded, though speculation has been rampant that the star quarterback might make such a request after signing a $156 million contract last year.
But if he does change teams, the Steelers are among the betting favorites to be his next destination. The Steelers have 25/1 odds to land Watson if he changes teams, the 11th-best odds. New England has the best odds at 2/1 as the Patriots are expected to move on from Cam Newton.
Indianapolis, Chicago, Denver, Washington, New Orleans, Detroit, Philadelphia, San Francisco and the New York Jets are all listed ahead of the Steelers.
While acquiring the NFL’s top passer might seem far-fetched, the salary cap implications could actually work out for the Steelers. The Texans would be responsible for all of Watson’s signing bonus if they trade him.
