As the WPIAL Championships get underway this weekend, the Pittsburgh Steelers are contributing to the WPIAL Scholarship Fund, the organization announced Friday.

The Steelers are providing $10,000 to the fund, which “awards scholarships annually to student-athletes from schools and school districts comprising the WPIAL in District 7.”

The championship games will not be held at Heinz Field this year, like they as they are annually, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Like many of the players and programs in the Pittsburgh area, the WPIAL championship games at Heinz Field are something we look forward to each season, and although we are unable to host the football championships at Heinz Field this season, we are pleased to show our support for youth football and high school sports by making a contribution to the WPIAL Scholarship Fund this year,” Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement Friday.
