Steelers Announce Season-Long Tribute to Darryl Drake

The Steelers will wear a season-long tribute to recently deceased wide receivers coach Darryl Drake, the team announced on Saturday.

The Steelers have added round, gold decals with the initials “DD” in black, to the rear of their helmets, placed to the right of the helmet stripe and above the helmet numbers.

The team made the announcement on Twitter, while featuring an image of the sticker on the helmet of wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who was particularly hard-hit by the loss of Drake.

The decals will make their debut on Saturday night as the Steelers play their second preseason game of the 2019 season at Heinz Field against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Drake passed away suddenly on Sunday while at the team’s training camp at St. Vincent College near Latrobe, Pa. He was 62. No cause of death has been announced.

The Steelers have not announced any specific plans to replace Drake. Coaching assistant Blaine Stewart, coaching intern William Gay and guest coach Ray Sherman have all worked with the receivers this week.
