Steelers Brass Has One Key Reason to Attend Ole Miss Pro Day

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be headed to Ole Miss’ pro day on March 28 — but not to see the player that many might be thinking.
According to Brian Baldinger of All Access Football, the Steelers top brass will skip its usual stop at the Penn State pro day on March 28, and instead head to Ole Miss to check out the Rebels top prospects that day.
That’s somewhat understandable. Penn State’s top two prospects, edge rusher Abdul Carter and tight end Tyler Warren, will probably be off the board when the Steelers make their first round pick at No. 21.
After that, the only other players that even remotely fit the Steelers needs would be safeties Kevin Winston Jr. and Jaylen Reed, who are projected to go in the third and fifth rounds, respectively.
On the other hand, Ole Miss has a half-dozen prospects that could fit the Steelers needs, and while many’s minds might go straight to quarterback Jaxson Dart, it’s another player that has the Steelers top brass booking flights for Oxford, Mississippi.

Defensive lineman Walter Nolen is a potential first-round pick for the Steelers at No. 21. One of a trio of defensive tackles that will probably be taken in the 20s in the first round, along with Kenneth Grant of Michigan and Derrick Harmon of Oregon, Nolen is one of the top players that could be available to the Steelers.
There’s plenty more in the later rounds, as well. Dart is expected to be an early second-round pick, with cornerback Trey Amos and wide receiver Tre Harris also projected to be drafted on the second day of the draft. Nose tackle J.J. Pegues is a day three option if the Steelers want to double dip along the defensive line.
The Steelers have been defensive line obsessed in their scouting for the 2025 NFL Draft, focusing on that position at both the Senior Bowl and the 2025 NFL Combine, so it’s no surprise that they’ll be scheduling their pro day visits around scouting that spot, as well.
Nolen didn’t work out at the combine, so the Steelers will certainly want to get a good look at him next Friday.
