Pittsburgh Steelers Steelers Injury Updates
Steelers CB Donte Jackson Expects to Play vs. Bengals
Steelers cornerback Donte Jackson popped up on the injury report on Wednesday, but he still expects to suit up against the Bengals.
PITTSBURGH — Steelers cornerback Donte Jackson reaggravated his back injury that already forced him to miss some playing time this season. On Wednesday, he popped up on the injury report as a limited participant.
That, of course, has put his status up in the air for the Steelers Week 18 regular season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, on Thursday, Jackson seemed confident he’ll be able to play come Saturday night.
“Yeah. It’s looking like day-to-day right now,” Jackson said. “Obviously, they don’t want me to force anything, but just staying on the treatments and try my best to be prepared and be ready to go.”
Jackson was first injured during the team’s Week 14 win over the Cleveland Browns, with what he later described as a pinched nerve. He returned to that game and started in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles, but he suffered an aggravation in that game, left the contest and was unable to return.
The Steelers then held Jackson out in Week 16 against the Baltimore Ravens. He returned last week and played a full game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but apparently his injury is now bothering him once again.
Jackson revealed it was due to tweaking his back once again during practice on Wednesday.
“Yesterday, I just had a setback during individuals to where I tweaked it, but after that, it’s just been all treatment,” Jackson said. “Not trying to really force anything. I was out there today moving around.”
Only time will tell if Jackson will be able to play, but if he isn’t able to, the Steelers will rely on backup cornerbacks Cory Trice or James Pierre. Pierre started against the Ravens in place of Jackson and again against the Chiefs, when Joey Porter Jr. was out with a knee injury.
Luckily for the Steelers, Jackson seems to think that won’t be the case.
