PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback James Pierre had a big showing with a pair of interceptions during Wednesday’s minicamp session, including one off quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, which he described as “precious.”

“To be honest, Ben is not just throwing anybody the ball,” Pierre said. “It’s precious to get one of those … It’s hard to get it from Ben. So when I got those, it kind of made me smile.”

There were no hard feelings from Roethlisberger either, who Pierre said congratulated him on the play after practice.

“After practice, Ben came up to me, told me good job, gave me a fist pump,” he added. “It built my confidence a little bit.”

Undrafted out of Florida Atlantic in 2020, Pierre saw action in all 16 games last season, recording 10 total tackles and a tackle for loss.

Pierre will need to continue making splash plays and building his confidence, as he is expected to take on a significant role in the Steelers secondary this coming season following the departures of both Steven Nelson on the outside and Mike Hilton in the slot.
