Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback James Pierre will play on Sunday night against the Miami Dolphins, the team announced on Saturday, after initially being listed as questionable.

Pierre suffered hip and knee injuries during the week of practice and was limited on both Thursday and Friday this week.

A Deerfield Beach, Fla. native and FAU alum, Pierre will be playing in his hometown for the first time in his career. He made his first start of the season in Week 6 against Tampa Bay and recorded three tackles while playing 95% of the team’s defensive snaps.

Pierre has been with the Steelers since joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and has become a reliable member of the team’s kick coverage units on special teams as well as serving as a backup outside cornerback.

The Steelers will now have nearly their entire secondary healthy for Sunday night’s game. Cam Sutton (hamstring), Levi Wallace (concussion) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee) are all set to return from injuries that caused them to miss the team’s Week 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Outside cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon is doubtful to play with his hamstring injury that has kept him out since the Cleveland Browns game.
