Steelers CB Joe Haden Suffered Concussion, Undergoing Evaluation

PITTSBURGH — Steelers cornerback Joe Haden suffered a concussion in the second half of his team’s 23-17 loss to Washington on Monday night, head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed after the game.

Haden left the game after tackling Washington running back Peyton Barber in the fourth quarter.

He walked off the field, with some assistance from a teammate and the team’s trainer, and was immediately taken to the sideline medical tent for evaluation. He did not return to the game.

Tomlin did not offer any further update on his status, other than that he was continuing to be evaluated. Haden will likely enter the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Haden was replaced on the field by second-year backup Justin Layne. The Steelers had already been playing without fellow starter Steven Nelson. Slot corner Cam Sutton had moved out to replace Nelson. Undrafted rookie James Pierre filled in for the Dime defense with Haden out.

The Steelers will be playing on their second consecutive short week when they visit Buffalo on Sunday.
