Steelers CBs Laughed at Broncos Limited Playbook for Bo Nix

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense basically just toyed with Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix in last Sunday’s 13-6 win. It was so bad that the cornerbacks were actually laughing after the game about the Broncos’ offense.

“I was just in the Steelers locker room going against a rookie in Bo Nix in his second NFL start,” James Palmer of Underdog Fantasy revealed on Steve Smith Sr.’s podcast, via USA Today. “[After the game], I’m talking to the Steelers corners and they’re sitting there laughing in the corner going, ‘We knew the playbook was this big [gestures small fingers].’ We know they weren’t going to take any shots, and we know what he likes to do. They’re going to make it easy on him to go here and here, and that’s all we had to worry about.”

Nix completed 57.1% of his passes and threw two interceptions. He finished with a brutal 55.2 quarterback rating.

Steelers cornerback Cory Trice picked off an ill-advised Nix pass in the end zone during the third quarter. It was the only moment in the game that Denver posed a threat to the defense.

“Whenever I saw everyone was in their right spots underneath, it gave me the room to be able to read the quarterback and see where he was going,” Trice said. “I was like, ‘Oh, he’s going to throw the ball.’ He really threw it. It was crazy.”

Trice thinks the defense made a statement by allowing only six points in the win. The defense has allowed just 16 points in their first two games.

“We ain’t trying to give up nothing,” Trice said.

Nix is 6 of 24 with three interceptions and a 14.2 passer rating when attempting passes of at least 10 air yards. To say the least, it’s been a rough start for the first-round pick out of Oregon.

Nix gave the most literal answer when asked about his game-changing interception in Sunday’s 13-6 loss to the Steelers.

“Yeah, dropped back and threw it to the other team,” Nix simply stated.

The Steelers CBs laughed after the game and still the #22 Broncos out ranked the #30 Steelers in passing offense.
