The contract details have emerged for the agreement between the Pittsburgh Steelers and free agent cornerback Patrick Peterson.

Peterson and the Steelers have agreed to the framework of a two-year deal that will pay him a total of $14 million, according to a report by https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1635432193039245317″>Tom

Peterson’s contract will have $5.85 million guaranteed, less than half. Peterson’s deal is for less money and significantly less guaranteed money than the three-year, $33 million contract that Cam Sutton has agreed to with the Detroit Lions.

The contract will represent a raise for Peterson, who played under a one-year, $4 million contract in 2022. His $7 million average annual value would be the ninth-largest cap hit on the team.

The exact structure of the contract with Peterson will need to be broken down before his salary cap hit for 2023 can be calculated. The contract will not be official until signed by both parties sometime after the start of the new league year at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Steelers entered free agency with roughly $11.3 million in usable current salary cap space, and the singing of Peterson will likely take a significant portion of that. The team can make more space by restructuring some contracts.
