Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. Explains Postgame Skirmish with Browns WR Jerry Jeudy: ‘I Feel Like I Got Under His Skin’
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. got into a postgame skirmish with Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy following Sunday’s 27-14 win at Acrisure Stadium. It wasn’t an eye-popping all-out brawl but the two did exchange some choice words and shoved each other.
“He was just trying to talk,” Porter said after the game. “I really don’t care about it. He said what he said. I said what I said. If there’s anything else after that, then, shoot, we can see each other. I’m not really trippin’.”
Jeudy went off against the Denver Broncos in last Monday night’s loss against the Denver Broncos, recording a whopping 235 yards receiving. He also had a good game against the Steelers two weeks ago. On Sunday, he caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Jameis Winston in the first quarter, but other than that, he caught just four passes for 29 yards.
Porter felt like he shut down Jeudy and threw him off his game.
“It was cool. There was a lot of back and forth,” Porter said about his matchup with Jeudy. “I feel like I got under his skin and it was a quiet day for him, in my opinion.”
Porter said Sunday wasn’t about getting revenge on the Browns, but righting their own mistakes. Several players said the same thing in the locker room.
“Like Coach T been saying all week, it’s not a get back, it’s a get right,” Porter said. “We had to pick up and learn from our mistakes last game. I feel like we did that.”
Porter made it clear that he has no love for the Browns, however.
“I already don’t like those guys and they don’t like us. I’m happy we got the team win. At the end of the day, they lost. We won. I’m happy,” Porter said.
Hating the Browns is a Porter tradition, after all. Porter’s dad, former Steelers outside linebacker Joey Porter Sr., got thrown out of a game against the Browns in 2004 after a pregame fist fight with running back William Green.
“We ain’t doing that no more,” Porter said with a laugh when asked about his dad’s fight with the Browns 20 years ago.
