The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing wide receiver Kadarius Toney, per multiple reports. In addition, Kansas City is also letting go of former Clemson star wide receiver Justyn Ross, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in desperate need of wide receiver depth, so either one of the former Chiefs wideouts could be potential options.

Toney fell out of favor in Kansas City, but he did come up big in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. Toney set a Super Bowl record by recording a 65-yard punt return in the fourth quarter and then caught a fourth-quarter touchdown that helped put the Chiefs ahead for the first time in the game.

Toney, 25, was a first-round pick by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Chiefs on Oct. 27, 2022, in exchange for a third-round pick. In his three-year career, Toney has recorded 82 receptions for 760 yards (9.3 average) and three touchdowns.

Ross joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL Draft. On July 25, 2022, Ross was placed on injured reserve due to an offseason foot surgery that caused him to miss the entire season. Ross was placed in the Commissioner’s Exempt List on Oct. 27, 2023, due to his arrest earlier in the week regarding domestic battery and criminal property damage. Ross was later suspended from Week 8 until Week 14

Ross recorded six receptions for 53 yards and no touchdowns in 10 games with the Chiefs in 2023. Ross caught 159 passes for 2,389 yards (15.0 average) and 20 touchdowns during his college career at Clemson.

Neither Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin III, Quez Watkins or Scotty Miller put up over 210 yards receiving in 2023. Roman Wilson is heading into his rookie year and has been out since the second week of training camp with a left ankle injury. The wide receiver corps certainly leaves a lot to be desired, especially if George Pickens gets injured. The Brandon Aiyuk trade situation is ongoing, but the Steelers need to make some moves to bolster their wide receivers corps or they could be left with nothing.
