The Pittsburgh Steelers have released veteran offensive tackle Devery Hamilton, the team announced on Monday, as one of nine early cuts before the 53-man roster deadline. Hamilton is in his fifth professional season, and had joined the Steelers as a free agent in January on a future contract.
Throughout training camp, Hamilton served as the Steelers’ third-team left tackle. He played there in all three preseason games, earning 48 total snaps, with 42 of them coming at left tackle and six at right tackle. Hamilton struggled in the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions, allowing a sack of quarterback Justin Fields early in the game.
Let's talk about this rep from Broderick Jones. So, some things:
1. Hamilton gives up the edge.
2. Perine gets beat too quickly.
I prefer Jones not two hand punch, but he's not the issue here.
Anderson getting long-armed doesn't help 77, either.pic.twitter.com/GRikcHbQBj

The Steelers played without tackles Troy Fautanu and Dylan Cook on Saturday, and Cook is expected to be out long term, with Fautanu’s status for the season opener up in the air, so Hamilton seems to have failed to take advantage of the opportunity presented to him by those injuries. TyKeem Doss and Anderson Hardy remain on the 90-man roster for at least the team’s next practice session on Monday.
The 6-foot-6, 311-pound offensive lineman joined the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2021, and spent some time on the Vegas practice squad before being released on Sept. 24.
Hamilton then caught on with the New York Giants, finished the season there and then re-signed for 2022. That year, he made the team as the ninth offensive lineman and played in nine games for the team, appearing in 39 offensive snaps and also playing on special teams.
The Steelers also announced the release wide receivers Jacob Copeland and T.J. Luther, running back Daijun Edwards, offensive guard Tyler Beach, defensive tackle Marquiss Spencer, inside linebacker Kyahva Tezino and cornerback Kiondre Thomas on Monday.
Additionally, it has been reported that the team released cornerback Kyler McMichael, though that was not officially announced.
The team has until 4 p.m. on Tuesday to cut from 91 players on the offseason roster down to 53. After nine cuts, their roster is currently at 82 players.
