The Pittsburgh Steelers are releasing cornerback Kyler McMichael as part of their roster cut down from 90 to 53 players, according to a report by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

McMichael is in his third pro season out of North Carolina. The 24-year-old appeared in two preseason game for the Steelers this year, recording five tackles and one pass breakup. He played a total of 34 defensive snaps, all as an outside cornerback or Dime cornerback. McMichael had been firmly behind backups Darius Rush and Cory Trice at the position.

The 6-foot, 203-pound Atlanta native originally signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina after the 2022 NFL Draft. After being cut by the Bucs, he spent the 2022 season on the Buffalo Bills practice squad. In 2023, he was released by the Bills, claimed on waivers by the Arizona Cardinals, but then waived with an injury designation and missed the rest of the season. He signed with the Steelers on July 30.

McMichael is the second reported cut for the Steelers as they move from 91 players on the offseason roster to 53 by the NFL-mandated deadline of 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The Steelers are scheduled to practice on Monday and Tuesday morning, so they will want to reserve some cuts for the deadline, as to have full participation in those two practice sessions.
