? Former NFL and Pitt head coach Dave Wannstedt is a believer in Kenny Pickett.
“Maybe (Pickett’s) arm strength isn’t Ben Roethlisberger, but I think the guy is probably more athletic,” Wannstedt told Colin Cowherd on Volume Sports. “And he’s played in more big games at this point than Ben did. Coming out of college, Ben did not play at the level that Kenny Pickett did for four years. They’re expecting championships. This is not Pickett’s good enough to get to the playoffs as long as we play good defense and run the ball. No, they see Kenny Pickett as a Super Bowl type (of) quarterback for them.”
? NFL on CBS analyst Charles Davis thinks Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth will blossom into an elite tight end in 2023.
“Freiermuth is someone a lot of people would say has had a breakout season already. He’s been a good player for the Steelers (seasons of 60 and 63 catches), but he can increase his production. Pickett is going into his second year as the starting quarterback. I don’t care if you’re a veteran or a rookie, a tight end is often a quarterback’s best friend,” Davis wrote.
“Freiermuth has the ability to shred defenses down the middle of the field but also run routes to the outside of the field, catch the football, turn upfield and make bigger plays. His targets are going to go up, and his catches are going to go up. At the end of the year, we might be discussing whether Freiermuth is an All-Pro or Pro Bowl player.”
