Daily Links: Big Ben Backs Canada, Steelers a Dangerous Team?

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger thinks too much blame is being put on offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

“People want to get all over him for the offense. But you could be a great coordinator, call great plays, but if it’s not executed, or if it’s not blocked, you can only call the play, you can’t go do it, too. It’s hard to jump on one guy, you know?” Roethlisberger said on his Footbhalin podcast.

Roethlisberger thinks the Steelers just need to fine-tune some things during the bye week. He also expects Canada to remain as the offensive coordinator.

“You’re sitting at 3-2, you’re No. 1 in the AFC North right now. I wouldn’t make a lot of changes at all,” Roethlisberger said. “You can go in and tweak some things. Tweaks and changes are a big difference. You’re not coming in and overhauling anything. You’re not, ‘This guy’s not playing, this guy’s in. This guy’s out.’ Let’s maybe go at some schemes. Let’s work on some wide receiver screens. Little things like that, I think, are appropriate. … Fine-tune things. How can we start faster? What’s it going to take to score early?

“I don’t think you’re making a coordinator change in the middle of the season,” Roethlisberger said. “You’re not going to make that change. … Use this time to break down where we’re good and where we’re not. Where you’re good, fine-tune it. Keep working. Where you’re not, either get rid of it, or get yourself better.”

🏈 Former NFL defensive end Chris Long said the Steelers are a dangerous team if you let them hang around.

“If you have a party, they’re that guy that if you don’t get them out of the house by 10 o’clock, the motherf*****’s gonna be sleeping on your couch. The Steelers are gonna be sleeping on your couch if you leave them in the ballgame,” Long said on his podcast.

🏈 The Baltimore Ravens had 7 drops on Sunday against the Steelers, according to TruMedia, tied for the third-most by any NFL team since 2013. The final breakdown: Mark Andrews (3), Zay Flowers (2), Rashod Bateman (1) and Nelson Agholor (1). Bateman and Agholor’s drops would have been touchdowns.

🏈 The Steelers have gone 52 straight games without 400 yards of offense (the longest streak since the Arizona Cardinals from 2009-2013). Matt Canada has been the OC for 39 of these 52 games since taking over for Randy Fichtner in 2021.

🏈 The Goodyear Blimp took an amazing shot of Acricure Stadium and the city of Pittsburgh during the Steelers-Ravens game.

🏈 According to Pro Football Focus, in single coverage against the Ravens, George Pickens recorded 5 receptions for 107 yards, a 41-yard touchdown, five first downs and a 135.0 rating when targeted. Pickens finished the game with 6 receptions for a career-best 130 yards.

🎥 NFL Films took an inside look at Joey Porter Jr.’s key interception against the Ravens.
