The Pittsburgh Steelers and the rest of the AFC were likely pleased to see the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs lose to the Detroit Lions, 21-20, on Thursday night in the season opener. The Chiefs were without All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce and All-Pro defensive lineman Chris Jones. The story of the night was Kadarius Toney’s inability to catch the ball, as one of his drops resulted in a pick-six by Brian Branch. Toney had one reception for zero yards and a brutal four drops.

🏈 According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, quarterback Joe Burrow has reached agreement with the Cincinnati Bengals on an 5-year, $275 million extension that includes $219.01 million guaranteed and makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

🏈 Brooke Pryor of ESPN: Minkah Fitzpatrick was tired of seeing the footprints on the Steelers’ locker room logo, so he did something about it. Without fanfare, he added stanchions to rope it off. “Something as small as keeping our logo clean, it’s simple, but it means a lot.”

🏈 Pro Football Focus thinks the Steelers have the 10th-best roster in the NFL.

🏈 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan talked about what he sees from the Steelers’ defense when he watches the film.

🏈 Former Steelers quarterback and Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw will begin his 30th year at FOX NFL Sunday.

🎂 Happy Birthday to former Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend, born on Sept. 8, 1975 in Batesville, Mississippi. Also, Happy Birthday to former Steelers running back Gary Russell, born on September 8, 1986 in Columbus, Ohio. Townsend and Russell both won a Super Bowl with the Steelers in 2008.
