Steelers Daily Links: Big Ben Has Offensive Plan, Jerome Bettis Jr. Following in Dad’s Footsteps?

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger

? Ben Roethlisberger gave his thoughts on what he would do if he was the Steelers’ offensive coordinator. “I’m throwing the ball deep on first, second and third down, like I’m just saying I’m letting it go, I’m not throwing the five-yard pass, I’m not throwing the three-yard pass,” Roethlisberger said on his Footbahlin podcast. Roethlisberger also said the Steelers need to use the bye week to figure out what is working and what isn’t working. “The plays that aren’t working, throw them out. Sometimes less is better.”

? Bleacher Report has the Steelers selecting Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter at fourth overall in their post-trade deadline 2023 NFL mock draft. “From Joe Greene in the 70s to Cam Heyward now, the Steelers have always had some excellent defensive tackles, and Carter will add to that list,” Matt Holder of Bleacher Report wrote. “He’s physical and strong enough to hold up at the point of attack and win with power as a rusher, and he has nimbleness and athleticism to defeat blocks with finesse as well. The Georgia product is pretty much the complete package at defensive tackle.”

? Except for his lone season at Pitt in 2016, Matt Canada had little success as a coordinator at the collegiate level when it came to scoring points. Canada never coached in the NFL prior to being hired by Mike Tomlin in 2020 to be the Steelers’ quarterbacks coach.

? Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs has more receiving touchdowns (7) this year than the Steelers, Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Tennessee Titans.

? Wednesday marked the eighth anniversary of when Steelers legend Joe Greene got his No. 75 jersey retired. Greene was honored at halftime of the Steelers Week 9 game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football. Ben Roethlisberger led the Steelers to a 43-23 win over Baltimore by throwing for 340 yards and six touchdowns.

? Matt Bowen of ESPN thinks the Bears gave up a second-round pick for Chase Claypool because they’re not expecting the 2023 free-agent class of receivers to be impressive. The Bears will have $134 million in salary cap space heading into the 2023 offseason. “Just put together my Top 25 FA list for ESPN. Only one WR there (Jakobi Meyers). CHI getting ahead of this? Maybe,” Bowen said on Twitter.

? Jerome Bettis Jr. is heading back to his dad’s alma mater for another visit. Notre Dame is hosting the 2025 wide receiver recruit for its matchup against Clemson on Saturday. The up-and-coming wideout plays at Atlanta (Ga.) Westminster School. Bettis has been to Georgia Tech and Florida so far this season, as well as having visited the Horseshoe for the Ohio State-Notre Dame game.

? The Washington Commanders announced that Tanya and Dan Snyder have hired Bank of America Securities to explore the sale of their franchise. Later on Wednesday, it was revealed that the U.S. attorney’s office in the Eastern District of Virginia has opened a criminal investigation into allegations that the Commanders engaged in financial improprieties, according to ESPN.
