Steelers Daily Links: Claypool Underwhelms in Bears Debut, Joe Mixon Sets Bengals Record
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool had an underwhelming debut with the Chicago Bears while the Cincinnati Bengals got a huge day from running back Joe Mixon.
? Chase Claypool caught two of six targets for 13 yards as the Bears lost, 35-32 to the Miami Dolphins. That’s the second-fewest catches and second-fewest yards for Claypool this season, after he was held without a catch in the Steelers’ Week 4 loss to the New York Jets. Darnell Mooney (eight targets, seven catches, 43 yards, touchdown) and tight end Cole Kmet (six targets, five catches, 41 yards, two touchdowns) were both more efficient in making the most out of Justin Fields’ targets.
? The Cincinnati Bengals struggled in their first game without star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, losing to the Cleveland Browns in Week 8. In Well 9, they made an obvious adjustment, leaning on running back Joe Mixon to carry more of the load, and that seemed to work out pretty spectacularly. Mixon set the Bengals franchise record for touchdowns in a game with five, and had 153 rushing yards and 211 total yards from scrimmage.
? The Bengals moved to 5-4 on their season with a 42-21 rout of the Carolina Panthers. They’re a half-game behind the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC. The Ravens will play the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football and need a win to maintain their division lead.
