Steelers Daily Links: Martavis Bryant Penalty Sinks Vipers, Ryan Shazier to Broadcast Booth?
Two former Pittsburgh Steelers players were in the news on Saturday, one in trying to continue his football career and the other in his next step for his post-career plans.
? Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier is one of the former NFL players that attended the NFL’s broadcaster bootcamp that prepares former players to take part in media careers after football. Shazier has been running a trucking company that he started since retiring from the Steelers due to his injuries.
Had a great time being surrounded by friends and old teammates at the NFL’s Broadcast Bootcamp. The league does a great job of empowering players to pursue their post-game passions with unwavering support and guidance from the field to the screen. pic.twitter.com/rQoaCiqeIo

? Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant was the goat for the Vegas Raiders of the XFL on Saturday. The Vipers’ game against the St. Louis Battlehawks went into overtime, where the XFL has a two-point conversion shootout to decide the winner. After St. Louis scored on their first possession and Vegas was stopped short, Vipers quarterback Jalan McClendon threw to Bryant in the end zone. Bryant caught the ball, but was called for offensive pass interference for pushing off, making the try no good. The Battlehawks won on the following possession.
Bryant caught one pass for 39 yards in regulation, giving him 12 catches for 146 yards on the season, the sixth-best receiver on the Vipers. The Rod Woodson-led Las Vegas squad is 2-6 with two games to play and was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.
Fellow former Steelers wide receiver Mathew Sexton has been more productive for Vegas. He caught three passes for 27 yards on Saturday and has 18 catches for 216 yards on the season.
? Happy 44th birthday to former Steelers kicker and two-time Super Bowl champion Jeff Reed and happy 40th birthday to Super Bowl XLIII winning right tackle Willie Colon.
