The Kansas City Chiefs regained primacy over the AFC West and maybe the entire conference with a 27-24 win over the Los Angeles Chargers at a raucous Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night, but the loss might be the least of the worries for LA fans.
Star quarterback Justin Herbert took a huge hit late in the game and was frequently holding his ribs, leading to speculation that he may have suffered a serious injury. Herbert stayed in the game even though LA was down two scores, leading the Chargers to a meaningless late touchdown — that is, unless you bet on the game. The Chargers covered thanks to his touchdown pass with 1:11 to play.
South Fayette alum Justin Watson caught a 41-yard touchdown pass early in the game as part of the Chiefs comeback effort. LA led 17-7 before Kansas City scored 20 straight points.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart said on 93.7 The Fan that Spygate wasn’t why the Steelers lost to the Patriots in the 2001 AFC Championship game, but it definitely was a factor. “I’m not making excuses for why we lost,” Stewart said. “(But) when I made a check or whatever we did, they knew exactly where to go. It was unbelievable.” The Steelers play the Patriots this Sunday.
According to Pro Football Focus, Cam Sutton had a 91.4 grade while lined up in the slot against the Bengals on Sunday, which was the best among all slot defensive backs in Week 1.
