Daily Links: Steelers Trainer Retires; Brock Purdy Cleared to Start
The San Francisco 49ers believe quarterback Brock Purdy will be fully cleared to play around Aug. 21 and is expected to start in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium, according to Matt Maiocco. Purdy suffered a complete tear in his ulnar collateral ligament against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game in January. After some delays, in March, Purdy underwent successful elbow surgery. His orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Keith Meister, conducted an internal brace repair to Purdy’s right elbow. Purdy began throwing a regulation NFL football on May 29.
? John Norwig, the Steelers’ head trainer since 1991, officially announced his retirement on Monday.
“It’s pretty hard to sum it up in just a few words what John has meant to us for 32 years,” Steelers president Art Rooney II said. “He’s been a consummate professional. And just on a personal level, he’s had relationships with so many people. He handled himself the way you would hope everyone on the staff conducts himself. He’s as good as it gets in terms of somebody that comes and stays for 32 years and provides us with that level of professionalism. I think our medical staff has been the best in the NFL for a long time, and he’s part of the reason for that for sure. We’re going to miss him.”
