? Ben Roethlisberger believes the Pittsburgh Steelers could be contenders.
“You’ve got two games with Wilson, then you get a bye week to put some new wrinkles in, some new challenges. I expect them to come out of the bye week, and I know they don’t wanna look too far ahead, but coming out of the bye just churning. I expect it to hit the ground running. No hiccups. There’s a chance that this team could really make a run,” Roethlisberger said on his Footbahlin podcast.
? In the Mike Tomlin era, the Steelers are 20-6-3 (77%) against the spread as home underdogs. The Steelers were 2.5-point underdogs against the New York Jets on Sunday night.
? Derek Carr believes Russell Wilson looks like the same player from 11 years ago when he won a Super Bowl.
“Russ can absolutely do this. Now, can he get in a situation where he is gonna read from the pocket, diagnose, and dice people up? No. But this is the version of Russ that has won a Super Bowl before,” Carr said on NFL Gameday. “I’m optimistic for Pittsburgh because of their defense, because of the run game to create one-on-ones there, and make those easy throws. He can absolutely do that.”
? Jerome Bettis, “Mean” Joe Greene and the family of the late Franco Harris all publicly endorsed Democrat Kamala Harris prior to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s appearance at Sunday’s night’s Steelers-Jets game.

? Former Steelers free safety Ryan Clark feels Arthur Smith is more comfortable with Russell Wilson at quarterback.
“I felt like Arthur Smith took a step forward with a little bit of confidence that he had in Russell Wilson that seemed like he wasn’t thinking about necessarily protecting him the way that he protected Justin Fields,” Clark said on NFL Live. “And when Mina and Marcus and I talked on Friday, we wondered what would change. And what changed to me was the confidence the play caller had in the guy quarterbacking his team.”
? San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The injury will require surgery and end his 2024 season after just seven games, coach Kyle Shanahan announced Monday.
? New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Daniel Jones will be the starting quarterback for Monday night’s game against the Steelers. Jones was benched during the Giants’ 28-3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
? The Steelers open as 6-point favorites against the Giants, according to Odds Shark.
? Bill Belichick gave Mike Tomlin props for the decision to start Russell Wilson:
“You’ve gotta give Mike Tomlin a lot of credit and he knows his football team extremely well,” Belichick said on the Pat McAfee Show. “He knows a lot more about Russell Wilson after last night and he makes a lot of good moves.”
? Happy Birthday to Steelers legend Heath Miller, born on October 22, 1982 in Richlands, Virginia.
