? On this day in 1998, the Steelers selected LSU guard Alan Faneca in the first round and Georgia wide receiver Hines Ward in the third round. Both picks ended up being home runs and played key roles in the Steelers winning Super Bowl XL. Faneca threw a key block on Willie Parker’s 75-yard touchdown run in the game and Ward was named Super Bowl MVP. Faneca was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021. Ward is not in the Hall of Fame, but has been a semifinalist in eight consecutive years since becoming eligible.
