Cam Heyward was a guest on Good Morning Football on Friday. The Steelers’ defense, Ben Roethlisberger’s recent comments, playing with his brother, and steak cooking competitions were some of the topics that Heyward addressed.
Former Steelers offensive lineman Willie Colon says being a Steeler is like being a part of a religion. “It’s definitely like a cult, it’s like, not even a question.”
Former NFL wide receiver and founder of the I Am Athlete podcast, Brandon Marshall, asked rookie George Pickens about his draft day reaction that went viral after getting selected by the Steelers. “Man, to be honest, I was glad to get drafted to the team that I was drafted to. But at the time, I was a little angry because I dropped to the second round,” Pickens said. “And me and my mentality was really just like it’s go time, it’s time to work. NFL Youngboy, I got that all in my captions, bio, all that stuff, man.”
Former NFL defensive lineman Chris Canty said on ESPN’s Get Up that Mitch Trubisky is just the pace car until Kenny Pickett gets up to speed. “I think this is all about a starter being able to show Kenny Pickett how to prepare, how to go about his business as a pro, and then when he’s ready at some point during the season, Mitch Trubisky will give way to Kenny Pickett being the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh.”
Deshaun Watson struggled in his preseason debut with the Cleveland Browns on Friday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In three drives, Watson completed just 1 of 5 passes for seven yards. Former Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs fared a lot better, completing 10 of 13 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. The Browns defeated the Jaguars, 24-13.
Browns’ starting center Nick Harris was carted off after suffering a knee injury on the second snap of Friday night’s preseason game.
Former Steelers wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud had a 39-yard touchdown reception in the San Francisco 49ers’ 28-21 preseason win over the Green Bay Packers on Friday night. McCloud ran a nifty out-and-up route on the play. McCloud signed a two-year, $4 million deal with the 49ers in free agency this past March.
