Does playing Renegade in the fourth quarter help the Pittsburgh Steelers win? A new study think so. Jerome Bettis, Ryan Shazier and Mike Tomlin all took part in the opening Saturday of college football.

🏈 Steelers John Madden explained why he helped the Steelers make the playoffs in 1976 in a new documentary with the late coach.

🏈 Steelers Steelers 2023 NFL Draft Primer: Ohio State OT Paris Johnson Jr., Syracuse OT Matthew Bergeron were in action on Saturday.

🏈 Steelers Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin watched his son, Boston College wide receiver Dino Tomlin, play Rutgers on Saturday.

🏈 Steelers As voted on by the NFL on FOX fans, T.J. Watt is projected to repeat as Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Watt currently has the second-best odds to win DPOY at +800. Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is the favorite at +700.

🏈 Steelers The Steelers lost outside linebacker Derrek Tuszka on waivers to the Tennessee Titans.

🏈 Steelers Former Steelers nose tackle Casey Hampton celebrated his 45th birthday on Saturday.

🏈 Steelers Steelers legend Jerome Bettis was on the field with Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott before the Notre Dame-Ohio State game on Saturday night. Bettis, who played at Notre Dame and just recently graduated, was in attendance to support the Fighting Irish, while Elliott is a former Buckeye.

🏈 Steelers Former Steelers linebacker and Buckeye, Ryan Shazier, was also at the Horseshoe last night. Shazier was on Ohio State’s sideline with LeBron James.

🏈 Steelers According to Brad Stainbrook of the Orange and Brown Report, the Browns are “working towards a deal” with former Steelers tight end Jesse James.

🏈 Steelers Ben Roethlisberger gave away signed cleats and a signed jersey to a lucky fan.

🏈 Steelers Research conducted by students at Point Park University found that “Renegade” actually does help the Steelers’ defense. The students found that the Steelers maintained a lead in 33 games (61.1%) and came from behind to win or tie in six games (11.1%); they lost the lead in eight games (14.8%) and continued losing in seven games (13.0%). Opposing teams were seven times more likely to fumble on the very next play, or 7% of the time. The results came from over 54 home games from 2014-21.

🏈 Steelers NFL analyst Scott Kacsmar doesn’t think Mitch Trubisky is an upgrade over the 2020-21 form of Ben Roethlisberger. According to Kacsmar, Trubisky’s average touchdown pass is 13.6 yards, the shortest in NFL history among the 221 quarterbacks to throw 50+ touchdown passes. Kacsmar also examined every instance of a Hall of Fame (or in the discussion) quarterback in the salary cap era and what his team did without him for that first season. He found that In 15 seasons, those teams missed the playoffs 13 times and had a losing record 11 times. The 1995 Chiefs (Steve Bono) and 2000 Dolphins (Jay Fielder) were the two quarterbacks who led their respective teams to the playoffs.
