Steelers Daily: Trubisky NFL’s Worst Starter? Week 1 Injury Updates
The Pittsburgh Steelers named Mitch Trubisky their starter on Tuesday, while one outlet labeled him the worst in the NFL and another said he’s the most likely to get benched. Franco Harris was feted by the Steelers, with the team awarding him its highest honor, and a clerical error caused a ruckus about the Steelers backup quarterback.
The big news of the day was delivered by Steelers president Art Rooney II, as he announced that the team will retire the uniform No. 32 of Hall of Fame running back Franco Harris in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception this December.
Franco Harris said he was “blown away” by the recognition, partially because the Steelers don’t retire very many jersey numbers.
The team will wear throwback uniforms with a commemorative patch for the occasion.
The festivities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception will go well beyond retiring Harris’ jersey.
The Steelers gave everyone a swerve when an update to the depth chart was released on Tuesday morning, moving Kenny Pickett to the backup quarterback spot and dropping Mason Rudolph down to the third team. Mike Tomlin said the correction was due to a clerical error.
Either way, Mitch Trubisky is officially the Steelers’ starting quarterback: “We’re just really comfortable with what Mitch has shown us.”
Of course, there’s always naysayers. The Ringer ranked Trubisky as the No. 32 starting quarterback in the NFL. Sportsbetting.ag has Trubisky as a 3-to-1 favorite as the first NFL starting quarterback to be benched this season.
Named a team captain on Monday, Najee Harris is seizing a leadership role, and learning what that means.
Steelers Injury Updates: Tomlin expects Alex Highsmith to play this week after missing the entire preseason with a rib injury. Diontae Johnson remains questionable.
