Steelers Daily: Trubisky NFL’s Worst Starter? Week 1 Injury Updates

Published

Steelers QB Mitch Trubisky

The Pittsburgh Steelers named Mitch Trubisky their starter on Tuesday, while one outlet labeled him the worst in the NFL and another said he’s the most likely to get benched. Franco Harris was feted by the Steelers, with the team awarding him its highest honor, and a clerical error caused a ruckus about the Steelers backup quarterback.

🏈 Steelers The big news of the day was delivered by Steelers president Art Rooney II, as he announced that the team will retire the uniform No. 32 of Hall of Fame running back Franco Harris in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception this December.

🏈 Steelers Franco Harris said he was “blown away” by the recognition, partially because the Steelers don’t retire very many jersey numbers.

🏈 Steelers The team will wear throwback uniforms with a commemorative patch for the occasion.

🏈 Steelers The festivities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception will go well beyond retiring Harris’ jersey.

🏈 Steelers The Steelers gave everyone a swerve when an update to the depth chart was released on Tuesday morning, moving Kenny Pickett to the backup quarterback spot and dropping Mason Rudolph down to the third team. Mike Tomlin said the correction was due to a clerical error.

🏈 Steelers Either way, Mitch Trubisky is officially the Steelers’ starting quarterback: “We’re just really comfortable with what Mitch has shown us.”

🏈 Steelers Of course, there’s always naysayers. The Ringer ranked Trubisky as the No. 32 starting quarterback in the NFL. Sportsbetting.ag has Trubisky as a 3-to-1 favorite as the first NFL starting quarterback to be benched this season.

🏈 Steelers Named a team captain on Monday, Najee Harris is seizing a leadership role, and learning what that means.

🏈 Steelers Steelers Injury Updates: Tomlin expects Alex Highsmith to play this week after missing the entire preseason with a rib injury. Diontae Johnson remains questionable.

🏈 Steelers The Miami Dolphins have signed former Steelers cornerback Chris Steele to their practice squad.

🏈 Steelers Former Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi has been voted a captain by the Tennessee Titans.

🏈 Steelers Pittsburgh native Joy Taylor is leaving The 3rd on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports Radio.

🏈 Steelers Former Steelers Rod Woodson and Franco Harris will be profiled in this season of A Football Life on NFL Network, along with Joe Theismann, Edgerrin James and Julian Edelman. The season premiers on Sept. 16 at 9 p.m. with the episode profiling Theismann. Woodson’s episode airs on Sept. 23 and Harris’ on Dec. 23, coinciding with the anniversary of the Immaculate Reception.

🏈 Steelers Tuesday marked the 58th anniversary of Art Rooney Sr.’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

🏈 Steelers According to Elias Sports Bureau, since the NFL moved to a 16-game schedule in 1978, Mitch Trubisky is the only quarterback with 50+ career starts and 0 career pick-sixes.

🏈 Steelers According to Pro Football Focus, T.J. Watt has the most sacks in the fourth quarter/overtime of one-score games since 2019 with 7.5.

🏈 Steelers Jerome Bettis gave a shoutout to Franco Harris for having his No. 32 uniform retired. “Congratulations to my friend, mentor and one of the best of all time to wear black and yellow, Franco Harris, your number retired by the Steelers. You are the definition of greatness,” Bettis said.

🏈 Steelers Mike Florio and Chris Simms of Pro Football Talk discuss whether the Steelers are primed to bounce back in 2022.

AROUND THE AFC NORTH

🏈 Steelers Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver and Clairton native Tyler Boyd said the ticket requests for the opener against the Steelers have been rolling in, but he has one rule for his friends and family in Pittsburgh: No black and and gold.
