Steelers Training Camp Takeaways: The quarterback competition is heating up with better play from Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett.

According to NFL Insider Josina Anderson, Deshaun Watson’s camp will bring up Ben Roethlisberger’s reduced suspension in 2010 to try to lessen his punishment. Like Watson, Roethlisberger was initially suspended for six games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, but it was cut down to four games. Watson’s camp thinks it’s unfair that Roethlisberger got his suspension reduced, while the NFL is pushing for Watson to get suspended for the entire season. A source told Anderson, “Where is the fairness and consistency especially if Sue Robinson landed at six” after her lengthy investigation.

Cam Heyward tweeted an apology to Steelers Nation for the cancellation of the Friday Night Lights and Saturday practice due to inclement weather. With the fields at Saint Vincent College drenched from the downpour on Friday night, the Steelers moved their practice on Saturday to the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, which was closed to the public. It certainly was a tough break for fans who traveled and planned vacations surrounding this weekend’s practices. The proceeds from the Friday Night Lights practice also raise a substantial amount of money for programs in the Latrobe School District and the community.

According to FOX Bet Sportsbook, the Steelers have +850 odds to win the AFC North in 2022, which is by far the worst odds in the division. The Ravens are the favorites to win the AFC North with +175 odds, followed by the Bengals at +190 and the Browns at +275. A different team has won the AFC North each of the last three seasons.

Jerome Bettis tweeted a photo of himself with other Gold Jacket running backs at the 2022 Ray Nitschke Luncheon on Friday in Canton. This year’s induction ceremony was held on Saturday. Bettis was one of many Steelers Hall of Famers who attended the Ray Nitschke Luncheon.
