PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have selected Memphis wide receiver Calvin Austin III with the No. 138 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft on Saturday.

Austin ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL Combine, elevating his draft stock. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound receiver was a walk-on track athlete with the Tigers before earning a football scholarship.

He led the AAC in receiving yards and touchdowns in 2020 with 1,053 and 11. In 2021, he had 1,149 yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games.

His track and field accomplishments include a 10.55-second 100 meters in high school and was part of a school-record 4 x 100-meter relay team at Memphis.

Austin is the second wide receiver drafted by the Steelers in the 2022 NFL Draft, after second-round pick George Pickens out of Georgia. That duo, along with free agent signing Gunner Olszewski and waiver claim Miles Boykin, will help offset the losses via free agency of Ray-Ray McCloud, JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Washington.
