Steelers Draft Talk: Senior Bowl Only Mock Draft
The 2023 NFL Draft is right around the corner and Alan Saunders and Nick Farabaugh of Steelers Now will have you ready with Steelers Draft Talk.
Everyone has a mock draft, but no one has one like this one. After spending a week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., Alan and Nick dished out a seven-round Steelers mock draft each, just with players they scouted personally at the Senior Bowl.
That might make for some strange selections — none of the consensus top 20 players were in Mobile, but it’s a good chance to highlight some of the players that we saw in Mobile that might be good fits for where the Steelers will be drafting.
ALAN’S SEVEN-ROUND STEELERS SENIOR-BOWL ONLY MOCK DRAFT
Rd. 1, Pick 17: OG O’Cyrus Torrence, Florida
Rd. 2, Pick 33: OT Dawand Jones, Ohio State “If you want to upgrade on (the Steelers) offensive line, I think you’ve got to swing for the fences. … Just because of his enormous size, he has a little bit of a higher ceiling that he could maybe turn into something. … Get him and see if you can develop him into a Pro Bowl type of tackle.”
Rd. 2, Pick 50: CB Tyrique Stevenson, Miami
Rd. 3, Pick 81: DT Keeanu Benton, Wisconsin “He fits the Steelers scheme really well and defensive tackle is a huge need.”
Rd. 4, Pick 121: ILB Ivan Pace, Cincinnati
Rd. 7, Pick 237: TE Payne Durham, Purdue “He’s a traditional, do-it-all tight end. … That classic, Big 10 tight end: tall, strong. He checks a lot of boxes for them. Literally every tight end they have played in the Big Ten. So I’m going to go add a Purdue guy to the Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State that they’ve got.”
Rd. 7, Pick 244 WR Grand Dubose, Charlotte
NICK’S SEVEN-ROUND STEELERS SENIOR-BOWL ONLY MOCK DRAFT
Rd. 1, Pick 17: OG O’Cyrus Torrence, Florida “He’s strong, he’s steady enough in pass pro … He’s a smart player and in the run game, this guy is a true difference-maker.”
Rd. 2, Pick 33: OT Darnell Wright, Tennessee
Rd. 2, Pick 50: CB Tyrique Stevenson, Miami “He’s super athletic. He was a big-time recruit coming out of high school. This is a guy that has so much upside.”
Rd. 3, Pick 81: DT Keeanu Benton, Wisconsin
Rd. 4, Pick 121: ILB Cam Jones, Indiana “He is polished enough that he could step right in and he is a guy that has some starter upside in the future.”
Rd. 7, Pick 237: SS Demarco Hellams, Alabama
Rd. 7, Pick 244 WR Tank Dell, Houston “He is a fun player that I just look at and fits what the Steelers could use in that slot position in terms of getting some competition into the room. There’s really nothing certain there.”
