PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers fan who died after falling from an escalator at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday has been identified as 27-year-old Dalton Keane from Monaca, Pennsylvania, officials said Monday.

Keane was transported by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital after he fell 40 feet from an escalator near Gate C on the northwest corner of Acrisure Stadium around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Allegheny County coroner’s office identified Keane on Monday.

“We are aware of an unfortunate incident that occurred inside Acrisure Stadium today,” Steelers team spokesperson Burt Lauten said. “We are working with local authorities and helping their investigation into the matter. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to the guest’s family.”

The circumstances regarding Keane’s fall remain unclear. Pittsburgh Police are investigating the incident.

“I can’t describe it,” eyewitness Lenny Huhn told our news partner WPXI. “It’s horrible. I’m still in shock. …. I just heard people gasping and I heard a sound and turned around and a guy was laying there, not moving. Everybody was shocked.”

Keane is believed to be the first fan death at the stadium in its 21-year history. In 2016, a Baldwin man suffered a head injury in a fight with a Dallas Cowboys fan and later died at his home.
