Steelers Free Agency Wish List: Role Players, Depth Pieces & Dart Throws

On the dawn of free agency, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a massive splash by trading for star wideout DK Metcalf and subsequently making him one of the highest paid players at his position. With plenty of money to spend, we knew that the organization could have a few tricks up their sleeves but even after acquiring a playmaker, there’s still plenty of work to be done to improve the roster. There are notable holes at cornerback, both on the boundary and in the slot. Questions at quarterback should be answered soon, if not at some point today. 

SN analyst Derrick Bell breaks down his wish list of Steelers free agent targets, diving into some sleepers and best fits. Some of the possibilities include: adding another pass rusher up front, inserting a run plugging nose tackle in the middle, or introducing a versatile third safety to the defensive back room. But even with Metcalf in the fold, the offense is far from complete. Continuing to add quality depth and competition to the trenches makes sense for a team that wants to establish the run and with Najee Harris hitting the open market, they’ll need someone to carry the rock as well. Here are some underrated players to keep an eye on as free agency kicks off.
