Steelers Free Agent OT Alejandro Villanueva’s Pittsburgh Home Under Contract

Free agent left tackle Alejandro Villanueva has yet to make a decision on where he will play next season, but his real estate dealing could indicate he will not be returning to Pittsburgh.

The Athletic’s Ed Bouchette joined The Fan Morning Show on 93.7 The Fan Monday, and reported that Villanueva’s Pittsburgh home is up for sale, and Steelers Now was able to confirm that the property is under contract, but has not been officially sold yet.

Bouchette added he heard the Steelers told Villanueva to hold off for now, indicating the club may be working out a potential reunion.

Villanueva, 32, has played his entire seven-year career in Pittsburgh. He has been incredibly durable over that span, starting all 16 games for five-consecutive seasons.

While Villanueva has been a stalwart at left tackle in Pittsburgh for many years, he showed signs of slowing down in 2020. That perceived decline, coupled with the Steelers’ own tight financial margins, have led to the limited opportunities for Villanueva this free agency cycle.

The Steelers re-signed tackle Zach Banner, who started one game in 2020, with the intention of him being a starter at one spot. Chukwuma Okorafor, who filled in for Banner the rest of the season at right tackle, is also under contract.
