The Pittsburgh Steelers have done a lot of work on the top talent in this year’s rookie defensive back class. That remained that case on Friday at Mississippi’s pro day.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor was seen running Ole Miss defensive back Trey Amos through some drills, per The Rebel Walk.

Amos, 23, will likely be a Day 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after registering a career-high 50 tackles (39 solo), one forced fumble, three interceptions and 13 passes defensed in 2024.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound defensive back also tested well at the NFL Scouting Combine, recording a 4.43-second 40-yard dash, 32.5-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-6 broad jump.

As a result, Amos now ranks as the consensus No. 41 overall player on the NFL Mock Draft Database big board.

The Steelers don’t own a second-round pick thanks to their trade for wide receiver DK Metcalf. However, if Amos is still available in the third round (No. 83 overall), Pittsburgh will likely consider him.

“Amos can disrupt the release and plays with good short-area movement in man coverage,” NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein writes. “Amos uses physicality and length to shrink the 50/50 odds in his favor. He can play in multiple coverage but is most consistent in zone. Amos needs to ramp up his run support and trust his eyes in space, but he has the goods to become a solid starting outside corner.”

Before transferring to Mississippi, Amos spent one season at Alabama, where he played in all 14 games with one start and had 12 tackles and five passes defensed.

Amos began his collegiate career at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. There he had 60 tackles (47 solo), one forced fumble, one interception and 13 passes defensed from 2020-22.
