Steelers Get Good News for Two Injured Defensive Stars
Two key Pittsburgh Steelers defenders saw their status improve on the team's injury report for Friday.
PITTSBURGH — Two injured Pittsburgh Steelers defensive starters improved their injury status on Friday as the team continued its preparations for Monday night’s Week 8 home game against the New York Giants.
Strong safety DeShon Elliott and nose tackle Keeanu Benton both progressed from Thursday to Friday. Elliott missed Thursday’s practice with a back injury, but was listed as a limited participant on Friday. Benton was limited on Thursday but practiced in full on Friday.
Veteran safety Terrell Edmunds would likely replace Elliott if he’s unable to play. Breiden Fehoko, who was just re-signed to the practice squad this week, is the lone backup at nose tackle with Montravius Adams on the injured reserve list.
For the second straight day, wide receiver Roman Wilson, outside linebacker Nick Herbig and center Zach Frazier did not practice. Head coach Mike Tomlin has already ruled Herbig and Frazier out for this week. Jeremiah Moon will serve as the No. 3 outside linebacker and Ryan McCollum will once again start at center. Brandon Johnson should be expected to be elevated from the practice squad to replace Wilson once again.
Linebacker Tyler Matakevich and running back Cordarrelle Patterson were both limited and have yet to fully practice as they attempt to work their way back from injuries.
Free safety Damontae Kazee and outside cornerback Donte Jackson both practiced fully and are expected to play on Sunday. Tackle Dylan Cook was a full participant for the second straight day and could be activated from the injured reserve list this week.
