PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t get a lot of good news on Sunday, but one positive takeaway from the team’s 24-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals is that outside linebacker T.J. Watt escaped serious injury.
Watt suffered what appeared to be an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of the game. He stayed down on the field, taking a knee until trainers talked to him and was not taken to the medical tent before returning to action.
Then Watt was later seen on the ground on the Steelers sideline in pain during an offensive possession. He was taken into the medical tent, got his ankle taped up, and again returned. Watt minimized the injury in his post-game press conference. When asked whether or not he was held on the play that he was injured, he said he didn’t want to get into it.
“The NFL has something against me, so I don’t want to talk any more negatively against them,” Watt said. “I don’t know what I did, but I’ll leave it at that.”
Wide receiver Diontae Johnson was also banged up in the game. He got his ankle rolled up on during a second-half running play. He took some plays off down the stretch, but was back in the game late.
Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, in his first game back from a hamstring injury, suffered a broken hand, but was able to play through it.
The rest of the news looks bad, but Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had no further postgame update on the ailments to Elandon Roberts (groin), Kenny Pickett (ankle) and Isaac Seumalo (shoulder), all of which left the game in the first half and did not return.
