Steelers Have Formal Meeting With Utah ILB Devin Lloyd
INDIANAPOLIS — Devin Lloyd had a formal meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he said when talking to the media Friday.
Not only did he have a meeting, but for Lloyd, it was a lengthy one at that. The Steelers clearly need a linebacker with Devin Bush’s down season. Joe Schobert hefty contract and burden likely mean he is out the door. Aside from that, there is not much depth to the room, either.
This team needs physicality, however, and Lloyd can bring that. With a dynamite senior season, Lloyd proved to have coverage chops, blitzing acumen, and a legitimate ability to lay the boom. Oregon can attest to that, as Lloyd dominated their offensive line and shut out their running game twice in 13 days.
This does not mean that Lloyd will end up in Pittsburgh, but there is a need, and Lloyd fills the void they could have. More importantly, he is a perfect fit for the Steelers’ blitzing fronts with new senior defensive assistant Brian Flores.
