Steelers Held Pre-Draft Interview with Utah OL Sataoa Laumea
The Pittsburgh Steelers held a virtual pre-draft Zoom interview with Utah offensive lineman Sataoa Laumea, their third interview with the OL.
The Pittsburgh Steelers held a pre-draft Zoom meeting with Utah offensive lineman Sataoa Laumea, he said in an interview with The Draft Network this week.
The 6-foot-4, 319-pound lineman played both right guard and right tackle over his five seasons at Utah, starting at guard in 2020 and 2021 and tackle the last two seasons. A strong run blocker, Laumea also did not allow a sack in 388 pass-block snaps in 2023, according to Pro Football Focus.
The Steelers have mostly shown interest in tackles available earlier in the draft class, but also met with other later-round options like Pitt’s Matt Goncalves and Georgia State’s Travis Glover, both whom came to Pittsburgh for an in-person pre-draft visit. The Steelers also met with Laumea at the Senior Bowl and had an informal interview with him at the 2024 NFL Combine.
“I’ve met with a few teams in person, and even more of them through Zoom and telephone,” Laumea said. “I went to Philadelphia and Atlanta for in-person visits. It was my first time in both of those cities. My meetings with the Eagles and Falcons went great. I’ve interacted with probably every team in some fashion. My latest Zoom was with the Steelers. I’ve been busy.”
Laumea checked in at the NFL Combine with 32 7/8-inch arms, which is shorter than the usual standard for an offensive tackle. Most have projected him to play guard at the next level, though the Steelers may wish to try him at tackle.
He did not run the 40-yard dash or do agility drills in the pre-draft process and thus did not qualify for an RAS score. Laumea put up 26 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
Laumea is currently ranked as the No. 155 overall prospect by NFL Mock Draft Database, which projects him to go in the fifth round. The Steelers do not have a fifth-round pick, so they would have to wait for Laumea to fall to the sixth round, where they select at No. 178 and 195.
