The Steelers are hiring former NFL fullback and longtime Raiders area scout Zack Crockett as a scout, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 reported.
A third-round pick out of Florida State by the Indianapolis Colts in 1995, Crockett spent 12 years and 13 seasons in the NFL. He played for the Colts, Jaguars, Buccaneers, Cowboys, and the team he spent the longest time with overall, the Oakland Raiders. With Raiders from 1999-2006, he played under Al Davis as an owner and upon his retirement, transitioned over from a player to front-office personnel.
Over his career, he racked up 1701 yards and 38 touchdowns on over 500 carries from the fullback position. Working primarily in the Southeast as an area scout, Crockett hails from Pompano Beach, Florida, and as mentioned, played for Florida State in Tallahassee. Over his career as a scout, he has developed those relationships heavily.
In addition to everything else Crockett does, he is the co-found and vice president of the Crockett Foundation, which he co-founded with his brother, Henri. The foundation looks to help middle school programs in Broward County with a focus on math, reading, technology, and other resources to help those schools.
Dave Ziegler came over from New England and he dismissed Crockett from his position shortly after the 2023 season ended. Now, Crockett lands with the Steelers. He is the second scout hired on Wednesday, as the team landed former WPIAL coach and Eagles area scout Jim Ward to their scouting staff. The move comes on the heels of longtime scout Mark Gorscak retiring from his position.
The Steelers now will look to the future as they continue forward under Omar Khan and Andy Weidl heading up the front office. After Kevin Colbert’s departure a year ago, there has been plenty of change within the Steelers scouting staff, and these two moves are just the latest example of that.
