Steelers Host Former Wisconsin Standout DB for Workout

Steelers DB Rachad Wildgoose

The Steelers are hosting former Wisconsin standout and versatile defensive back Rachad Wildgoose for a tryout, according to Aaron Wilson at KPRC2 in Houston. If that’s a familiar name to you, it’s because Wildgoose had a workout for the Steelers last Wednesday with four other defensive backs. Now, he appears back once again for another look.

The Buffalo Bills selected Wildgoose in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin. However, he did not last there, ending up on the practice squad and bouncing to the New York Jets after they signed him to their active roster. He played on the Washington Commanders in 2022 before being cut this season at the end of training camp. Wildgoose ran a 4.53 40-yard dash coming out of college.

Pittsburgh has plenty of options at defensive back on the depth chart. In 2022 with Washington, Wildgoose posted 16 tackles and three pass breakups. He played a significant point on special teams for the Commanders, too, but could not latch onto another roster this season despite the experience from a year ago.

The in-house options on the practice squad include Luq Barcoo and Trenton Thompson for defensive backs. Young cornerback Darius Rush joined the team’s active roster off the Chiefs practice squad after they cut Desmond King. It seems they could look to add some depth and versatility to the group by bringing Wildgoose in for another workout.
