The Steelers got one player back from the injured reserve list, but have replaced him with another player.

The team activated offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski from the injured reserve list on Wednesday and placed inside linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III on injured reserve.

Wisniewski suffered a pectoral injury late in the Steelers’ season-opening win over the New York Giants. He had started that game in place of David DeCastro, who missed it with a knee injury and was replaced by Kevin Dotson.

Dotson again filled in for DeCastro while Wisniewski was out and J.C. Hassenauer twice replaced Maurkice Pouncey at center while Pouncey dealt with foot injuries. Wisniewski was signed as a free agent in the offseason to the team’s top backup at both interior offensive line spots.

Gilbert helped replaced Devin Bush at inside linebacker after Bush was lost for the season to a knee injury in Week 6 against Cleveland, but suffered a back injury himself that kept him out of the team’s last two games.

Gilbert, a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, also missed most of his rookie season with a back issue. He will have to spend at least three weeks on the IR before he is eligible to return.

The Steelers’ active roster remains at 53 players after the pair of moves.
