UNITY TWP, Pa. — Russell Wilson did not take a step forward in his progression back from a calf injury on Wednesday, and the Pittsburgh Steelers lost two outside linebackers to injury through the duration of the practice session at St. Vincent College.
Wilson took individual periods, and participated in 7-on-7 and threw balls for a 1-on-1 wide receivers vs. defensive backs drill, but was limited to just handing off in 11-on-11 periods. There’s no indication that there’s anything holding him back physically at this point, but head coach Mike Tomlin sees content to be patient in letting his veteran ramp up to full participation.
Meanwhile, the Steelers lost two outside linebackers on Wednesday, with David Perales going down with a knee injury during seven shots, and Kyron Johnson leaving practice toward the end with hamstring tightness. Perales and Johnson have been competing with Jeremiah Moon to be the team’s No. 4 outside linebacker, and their absence would leave the team very short at that position.
Wide receiver Roman Wilson did not practice and was not spotted on the sideline as he continues to have his ankle injury evaluated. He is expected to miss multiple weeks.
Tight end Rodney Williams II returned to the individual portion of practice for the first time since his AC joint sprain, but did no team work.
