Steelers Injury Updates: CB Arthur Maulet Day-to-Day with Ankle Injury

Steelers CB Art Maulet

PITTSBURGH — Steelers cornerback Arthur Maulet is considered day-to-day with the right ankle injury he suffered in the team’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday, head coach Mike Tomlin announced.

Maulet had been considered the leading contender to be the team’s starting slot cornerback, replacing longtime starter Mike Hilton, who moved on in free agency.

Maulet had been battling second-year defensive back Antoine Brooks Jr. for the spot throughout training camp. Brooks also missed Saturday’s game with a left hamstring injury.

With both Brooks and Maulet unavailable, the Steelers moved starting outside cornerback Cam Sutton into the slot and elevated second-team boundary corner James Pierre to the first team.

That’s always something that head coach Mike Tomlin has considered an option, and he even said at one point this season that might be first choice for a third cornerback to go into the game, but he has wanted to see what Brooks and Maulet were able to do at the spot.

Tomlin said that he was hopeful that Maulet would be able to return to practice before Friday’s preseason finale at Carolina.
