Steelers Injury Updates: Chase Claypool Not Ruled Out for Saturday’s Game
PITTSBURGH — Chase Claypool is still working his way back from an ankle injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin is not ruling him out of Saturday’s third preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
“We’re not ready to draw the line in the dirt here over 48 hours out from the contest,” Tomlin said after practice on Thursday. “We’ll gain some clarity on he and some others as we get closer.”
Claypool was injured near the very end of Tuesday’s practice session, and reportedly has a mild ankle sprain, though Tomlin has not given a specific update on his condition.
He was a non-participant in Wednesday’s practice. Without Claypool in the mix, James Washington and Cody White saw elevated roles.
Tomlin also said that veterans such as Cam Heyward and Joe Haden could play, but did not say decisively that they will. He also did not have an update on the timeframe for Stephon Tuitt or T.J. Watt to return to practice.
